Counselling Experience and Integrative Approach

My name is Judith and I am a counsellor with COSCA. I am trained in integrative counselling which enables me to use key counselling approaches thoughtfully and meaningfully. Registered with HCPC, I am dual trained as an Occupational Therapist having qualified in 2000. With the privilege of working within the NHS mental health services for the last 14 years, I bring a level of knowledge and understanding around the real-life issues of mental health.

My counselling practice is trauma informed and I have a special interest in reproductive mental health, having founded a web resource for baby loss and infertility.

Working holistically, I consider the mind, body and soul as appropriate. I have a Christian faith which enables me to welcome and work with all people, of any faith or none.

I offer a compassionate counselling service which can hold a safe space for you to speak and be heard from a place of acceptance.

Since a young age, two passions which have remained are my desire to truly listen and understand others alongside appreciating the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors. After a significant loss, walking outdoors became central to my own processing and grieving. Out of this experience, and my own interests, came the vision to develop Solvitur Counselling with walk and talk counselling.

I regularly engage in professional supervision to ensure I am working safely and ethically. Alongside engaging in continuing professional development opportunities.

Outdoor Walk and Talk Counselling Services

Sunlight filtering through tall woodland trees.

Solvitur Counselling is a professional counselling service rooted in compassionate, experienced listening and grounded in therapeutic and clinical skills.

Solvitur Ambulando was a phrase used in the early world of philosophy which translated means "it is solved by walking".

A cornerstone belief at Solvitur Counselling is that in spite of the difficulties you might be experiencing you can take that first step towards change.

With counselling outdoors bringing movement and nature together, the vision at Solvitur Counselling is that clarity can follow action.

Research and evidence supports the therapeutic benefits of outdoor therapy with walk and talk counselling.

Counselling outdoors can be a more helpful environment and restorative space to bring understanding to what you are experiencing.

Open countryside and hills beneath a blue sky.

All walk and talk counselling sessions will be in safe, accessible green spaces and for people of all fitness levels.

Whether you are engaging in outdoor counselling or metaphorically walking through counselling sessions - the journey of a talking therapy can bring greater understanding, hope and change to your life.

Some frequently asked questions

Do I need to be fit and active to do walk and talk counselling?

No, this method of counselling can be adapted to your comfort level and mobility needs. Sessions will take place on flat paths and at a pace which you are comfortable with. I will complete a risk assessment with you prior to sessions which will enable us to identify if you have any existing health conditions that we need to be mindful of when you are out walking.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Within our risk assessment the weather will be discussed in advance. Sessions may still go ahead in light rain with appropriate clothing. If conditions are unsafe sessions can move online.

Can I bring my baby/child to walk and talk counselling?

To make sure you get the most from the session, walk and talk appointments need to be attended individually. If bringing your baby/child is unavoidable, we could explore another type of session that may work better for you.

Can I bring my dog to walk and talk counselling?

I am a big dog lover and have my own dog but for the purposes of keeping our walk and talk sessions focused, safe, and confidential, I ask that clients attend without their dogs. Thank you for your understanding.

How is confidentiality managed outdoors?

Confidentiality is a keystone within counselling and taken seriously at Solvitur Counselling. Walking routes will be discussed with you prior to your sessions to discuss the type of route and ensure this is space where you will feel safe and your privacy maintained.

Do you only offer outdoor walk and talk counselling?

No, I can offer on-line counselling using Zoom from a safe space of your choice.
